Just finished Room by Emma Donaghue for book club! There was a lot of hype around this book and I was actually the one to recommend it for us to read, and I will say that it actually stood up to my expectations! It was very well written (from the point of view of a five year old child) and it was a perfect balance between being realistic but not making you feel hopeless and depressed. I think this type of story is almost morbidly fascinating- looking into the psyche of someone who has been held captive their enitre life…crazy to think about. And it mirrored current events perfectly as we read it just after the Jaycee Dugard story came to the surface in the media.
The whole role of the media was actually really interesting in the book…everyone should read it. Especially in a book club atmosphere…definitely a book you want to chat about with friends.
